Simply Put...

Quark will continue to lose market share due to the tightly nit integration of InDesign and other Adobe products thus resulting in seamless production workflows.

What are they teaching in schools these days?

What keyword in Craigslist often gets mentioned the most, Quarkx or InDesign in job listings?

It is only a matter of time.

Agreed. User input would aid in curbing the anxiety that is experienced with the threat/promise of a new upgrade.

As to the rest...progress—whether we like it or not, or even believe that it qualifies as progress—happens. We are forced to maintain the relationship with the new or get left behind with the old.

Fact of Life. Simple as that...
...whether we like it or not.

We've all heard it: "prepress is dead".
I'm lucky to have started in prepress and worked my way into web design and "premedia".

The press still exists and, I believe, will for some time. However, the shift is well on-its-way. We need to be green and everything needs to be instantaneous.

We've already found the answer to that, but as humans we still need to transition.
My point is that it's all media...Now. Our present was the hypothetical future.
Media is media. A way to inform, advertise, communicate no matter what the method.

It's the method(s) we're talking about. And yes, we still need the "before", the "pre", for those not familiar with or interested in the process of preparing documents for the rest of the world.

Hi Whileiburst, glad that the US hasn't reached the point of killing off the physical supply chain yet, maybe the suppliers here are all just trying to out-do each other for the work that has driven the prices so low.

I wonder if this is a problem more centralized to Europe? In the United States it's usually the other way around. An album on iTunes might run about $9.99, where it could be anywhere from $9.99 to $22.99 for a physical copy. I suspect part of the problem would be that people are willing to go to great lengths to remain lazy. Why pay 3 Euro for something you can pay 4 Euro for and have right away?

You are correct though... something is definitely backwards.

Good point Stan, something I left out, how many of the companies that publish they are doing their bit actually fulfil on their commitment to do so.
Interesting little story on your blog about the hotel and I wonder if there is actually a big story there for the papers....

I think it s also important to check on the reality behind green ad campaigns.
For example I checked how green were some hotels;

Thanks Cindy, it seems that companies aren't that interested in knowing how well you can actually do all the things you put on your CV, I have interviewed people in the past who have shown examples of work that they claimed they did at their previous company that was actually work that I had produced myself, pretty embarrassing for them but had they been interviewed by someone else in our company they would have probably got the job, I'm not sure if it is right to chance your arm with your CV, but like you say it's a jungle out there and only the fittest will survive, the first step is getting your foot in the door!
